Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you can recycle K-Cup® pods but only if you separate the pod components. “K-Cup® pods consist of a combination of plastic, aluminum, organic material (coffee grounds) and a paper filter. While all said items can be easily recycled separately, the K-Cup® pod as a whole cannot be recycled. *” The components need to be separated and sorted into the correct categories for coffee pod recycling or composting.

Full details on how the Recycle A Cup® cutter works are shown in our demo.

The Recycle A Cup® cutter works with the majority of coffee pod designs such as K-Cup® pods and similar brands. However, the cutter may not work with all brands of disposable coffee pods due to different pod sizes, materials and thicknesses. Please use the cutter to get a feel for how it works with your favorite coffee pod brand.

You can recycle the paper filter. Or you may compost the paper filter along with the coffee grinds. However, even if you throw out the pod top with the paper filter still attached, the filter and coffee grinds can now decompose vs. being trapped in the plastic and you are still making a nice environmental contribution. Learn more about composting coffee grounds!

There are lots of ways that you can re-use them at home, for arts and crafts, mini-pots for planting seeds, and for organizing small items like picture hangers, screws, paper clips, etc. Be sure to read our blog on How To Repurpose or Reuse Coffee Pod Plastic and check out this Pinterest board for ideas.

Not all coffee pods are exactly the same. The Recycle A Cup® cutter works with the majority of coffee pod designs such as K-Cup® pods and similar brands.
